Primavera Sound:
Fuck Buttons
Fresh-faced and eager for more we roll straight up for The Sonics on Friday. These crusty old rockers can still cut it on tracks like Strychnine and 'that one off the car advert'.

But Husker Dü are far more important in the history of rock, and Bob Mould received a warm reception as he set about delving into the HD archive.

Sounding much more urgent with a full backing band than he does when he plays solo, the songs from his recent The Distrct Line LP also worked.
Continuing the evening's unintentional 'history of alt.rock' theme, Sebadoh and A Place To Bury Strangers both turned in suitably scuzzy performances of distorted guitar thrills old and not so old.

ATP heroes and all-around nice guys Fuck Buttons were on form with their usual noisy blowout. Listening to them live is like being spun round in a tumble dryer with a dial-up modem knocking against your head and a man screaming about horses. Or something.

More free beers courtesy of Primavera's delightful sponsors set us well on the way to an extremely enjoyable Catalan evening. A downside? Well, The Go! Team are terrible live - which is a pity because they have some good songs, but after all this time you'd think they could get a crowd going and do it right. But no.

Anyway who cares? El Guincho was another surprise hit - musicOMH randomly ended up stood next to some friends from the Canary Islands who'd come over to support him with some ludicrously over the top dancing (we joined in, of course), and his Afro-fusion beats were a real treat.

Similarly Supermayer, who rounded the evening off at the CD Drome Stage, pulled a mixed bag of disco and techno out of their hats to get the locals jumping around - and even some of the earnest indie kids from earlier who seemed to allow themselves an hour of actually 'enjoying' the music. Beautiful. This, we'd say, was the best night - despite no standout headliners. Such is the potency of Primavera's mixed up line up.

But there was still day 3 ahead of us...
